Erectile dysfunctions
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined by the inability to achieve or maintain a regular basis erection . [Figure 1]
It may be permanent, or may occur intermittently. A man is considered to be impotent if he cannot get or maintain an erection sufficient for intercourse in 25% of attempts. Erectile dysfunction also may be linked to the inability to ejaculate.
Between the ages of 40 and 70, 25% have at least a moderate degree of Erectile dysfunction. An estimated 30% of men have had erectile dysfunction at some point in their lives.
Once we have identified the cause of ED , medications or others treatments are available to help men have erections. Specialist Doctors usually start with the least invasive treatment . First, we might recommend that a patient stop taking drugs that may have erectile dysfunction as a side effect (e.g nicotine;anti-depressives; …..). A psychotherapist may be needed to solve any psychological issue. Other therapies such as vacuum devices, drugs (we will discuss here about herbal alternatives), or surgery may be also recommended.
Now Extensive diagnostic testing is usually unnecessary, as effective medications are now available. The most widely known of these is sildenafil citrate (Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra), which is used by 90% of men with Erectile Dysfunctions but such drugs have many side effects and there’s efficient herbal alternative ones (herbal viagra…)

Causes
Prostate or spinal surgery may cause important injuries to tissues that are important in generating or maintaining an erection. As long as some of these important structures remain intact, therapies can restore erectile function.
Erectile dysfunction is frequent in men who take certain drugs. Examples include alcohol and tobacco, or medications used to treat diabetes, depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, or anxiety.
Symptoms
Men regularly unable to have or maintain an erection are suspected of having erectile dysfunction. Normally, aroused men receive impulses from the brain that prompt the penis to fill with blood, causing an erection. If these signals are broken, men cannot get or maintain an erection.
Causing Factors
Certain diseases can damage blood vessels, tissues, and muscles that are involved in erection processes. A known example is diabetes , that can damage both the nerve and blood supply to the penis. Between 30% and 55% of diabetic men have ED.
Other Diseases that may cause erectile dysfunction :
- Kidney disease
- Alcoholism
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Atherosclerosis
- Heart disease
In 20% of cases, mental or emotional factors cause Erectile dysfunction. Factors such Stress, anxiety, guilt, depression, and/or fear of sexual failure may cause impotence in younger men.
Hormonal abnormalities such as low testosterone can predispose men to ED but In general, men with testosterone deficiency are still able to get and maintain erections.
